How to use Adobe Acrobat Pro
Acrobat Pro is a desktop application developed by Adobe that serves as a PDF document toolkit. This document will cover some of the basic functions of the features of the program such as:
Combine Files
Apart from being an application that can open PDF files, it can convert files from other formats such as images (JPG, TIFF, PNG), Microsoft Office Documents (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX) and more. These files can also be selected from the application to be combined into a single packet that can be used to send out to others.
Instructions to combine files
Open the Combine Files module.
Add your documents using the Add Files button or drag them onto the window.
Click Combine.
Select where the file should be saved.
Organize Pages
The Organize Pages tool has two main features:
Open the Organize Pages module
Select a file to open
You will be presented with a representation of all the pages in the document and options to reorganize:
Reorganizing pages for multi-page documents
Insert - Allows you to add more pages to the file.
Click Insert
Select a file
Select where to insert pages
Replace - This option allows you to change pages for updated or older versions of documents.
Select the page(s) to replace
Click Replace
Select the document from your files that should be inserted
Pages can also be reordered by dragging left, right, up and down.
Splitting pages from a document into multiple files
Extract - Allows you to take out specified pages into a new PDF document
Select page(s) to extract
Click Extract
Select extraction options
Delete Pages after extracting - Removes the pages from the base document after extraction
Extract pages as separate files - Forces each page to become its own PDF file
Click EXTRACT (blue button)
The extracted file will be opened as a new PDF file in a new tab in the application. From here, save your file in the location of your choice and give it a memorable name.
Split - Allows you to extract pages based on predefined patterns into new PDF documents
It is recommended to create a new folder on your computer to save the files that have been extracted by this method otherwise they could end up in the root of the folder where the original file is located.
Click Split
Select how the documents will be split by:
Number of pages - Splits documents by selecting n number of pages, with n being a number that you specify. This is useful when the document that you are working with shows a consistent pattern that repeats. An example of this is a 30 page product catalog where every 2 pages showcase a single product, giving you a total of 15 split documents to work with.
File size - Splits documents by grouping documents into groups of x file size. This is useful when we know that the size of each document that we are after is constant. An example of this is splitting up image files that we know are always 5MB in size from a larger, combined file that is 50MB in size. As a result we would get 10 images.
Top level bookmarks - This option splits files based on bookmarks (sections) embedded into the PDF. This is the trickiest option to use as most scanned documents will not have bookmarks embedded though some documents created in MS Word or another text processor might if used correctly.
After selecting your option and tuning the settings, press split (blue button)
Export PDF
Adobe Acrobat Pro has a tool to export PDFs to other formats. This can make editing certain documents easier than using the included Edit PDF function as background graphics may be able to be replaced. Please note that this method is not 100% accurate and may have some strange formatting decisions when exporting to Word, Excel and Powerpoint. The conversion may turn out better if the document was created from Word, Excel or Powerpoint.
Select Export PDF from the Tools menu
Select the file to export
Select the format that you would like to export to. The options include:
Microsoft Word
Spreadsheet (Excel, CSV)
PowerPoint
Image
HTML Webpage
Once you’ve selected your format, click EXPORT
